Brent Wood

Obituary of Brent Kendrick Wood

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brent Wood announces his peaceful passing at the age of 70. Cherished father to Christopher Wood (Karla) of Parma, Ohio. Proud “Grandpa Brent” to Kerrigan Wood also of Parma, Ohio. Predeceased by parents Ken and Patricia Wood (Swalwell) and by stepfather Roger Cunningham. Forever remembered by his siblings Allan Wood (Sheila) of Peterborough; Elaine Wickens (predeceased March 2024) of Windsor and Laurie Lamb (Doug) of Windsor; Stepsisters Alexis Anderson of Pembroke; Sheila Cunningham (Bill) of New Zealand and Martha Cunningham of Ottawa. Brent will be sadly missed by Great Niece Alyssa Langlois and Great Nephew Landon Langlois both of Windsor. Brent is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins from around the world. To all that knew him Brent had several loves: Brent loved horses and started his career in harness racing as a groom at Windsor Raceway at the age of 16. He continued his love of horse racing, eventually getting his license & becoming a driver/trainer. Brent’s racing career took him to Ohio, Iowa, Illinois & he eventually settled in Ft Lauderdale, Florida for over 30 years. Man at the Line was one of his winners and probably his favourite horse. Brent also loved cars and, as a young boy, he always had one torn apart in the family garage. He loved NASCAR and rarely missed a race on TV. Although he worked for a few years in automotive retail, Brent always ended up back with harness racing. However, he continued to help friends work on their racing cars. Several years ago, Brent lived another of his dreams by purchasing a 1985 Corvette. Football was also high on Brent’s list of loves, especially the NFL. His favourite team was the Miami Dolphins, that’s what living in Florida did to him but, when he retired from racing and moved back to family in Windsor, he also adopted the Detroit Lions. Occasionally, one of these teams would win a game. Happy Days. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, and staff on Neurology 8W at Windsor Regional Hospital, Ouellette Campus. Your expertise and compassion will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Dr Sabalbal & Dr Rochon. The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at Cardinal Place where Brent lived for a few months, ably assisted in Brent’s care by the staff of Bayshore. As per Brent’s wishes, cremation has taken place with his racing colours worn for his final race. A private celebration of Life will be held at an appropriate time in the future.
